A new era in the wine industry began in 1980 when Colio Estate Wines opened its doors. In what is now the VQA Lake Erie North Shore region, our founders duly noted the region’s soils, lengthy growing season and southern exposure to the lake.The ingredients for success in the wine business were all readily available but for the winemaker. And, in Carlo Negri, their shopping list was complete.

Over the course of the next 25 years, and under Carlo’s guiding hand, the winery has won hundreds of international awards but, moreover it has earned the respect of its contemporaries.

Today, at the winery, one can observe the new-world technique, old world tradition and profound, innate passion, that is critical to the vinting of award-winning table, sparkling, late harvest and Icewines. Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery, a family run business opened its doors November 1st 2006. Its addition has marked the 13th winery in a quickly growing viticulture region located on the North Shores of Lake Erie. We are known as SWOVA (South Western Ontario Vintners Association) and our goal is work together to provide our customers great wine and a great experience when they come to our doors.

Wagner Orchards and Estate Winery began with the first planting of apple trees in 1986. Beginning as a small "pick-your-own" farm, it has expanded to become a family agricultural destination. The proprietors of Wagner Orchards are Harold and Janice Wagner. Harold is a 1981 graduate of the University of Guelph with a degree in agriculture and Janice is a veterinarian (OVC 1984) and owner of the Essex Animal Clinic. Harold and Janice, along with their children, Matt, Melissa and Katrina and Harold's parents, Hanna and Alfred operate the farm.
