On a northeastern spit of Pelee Island, perhaps the most southerly extension of Canada, 96 hectares have been set aside as a nature reserve. The blue racer snake is one of several rare species found within the reserve. There are remnants of deciduous forests and patches of wetland, rich in aquatic plants.

Located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Ojibway Prairie Complex is a collection of five closely situated natural areas within a 10 minute drive from downtown. The Department of Parks & Recreation's Ojibway Nature Centre administers three of these areas. Ojibway Park, Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park and Black Oak Heritage Park, for a total of approximately 127 hectares (315 acres). The nearby Ontario Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve, owned by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, adds more than 105 hectares (230 acres) of additional prairie and savanna. The total area is continually growing as the City of Windsor and the Ministry of Natural Resources acquire more land for protection. Rounding out the complex is the 117 hectare (289 acre) Spring Garden Natural Area. Collectively these sites are designated as the Ojibway Prairie Remnants Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI).
